Red Hat Enterprise Linux is available for the following scenarios:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL): RHEL is the world’s leading enterprise Linux platform, certified on hundreds of clouds and with thousands of hardware and software vendors. Red Hat Enterprise Linux can be purchased to support specific use cases like edge computing or SAP workloads, and different environments across physical, virtual and cloud deployments.
- RHEL for Virtual Datacenter: This subscription allows the deployment of unlimited Red Hat Enterprise Linux guests (2 socket) in virtualized environments on supported hypervisors, like OpenShift Virtualization, Red Hat Virtualization, VMware, and Microsoft Hyper-V. Note - Does not include Hypervisor.
- RHEL for HPC: This Linux variant is used for processing complex calculations at high speeds across multiple servers in parallel. The groups of servers are known as clusters and are composed of hundreds or even thousands of compute servers that have been connected through a network.
- RHEL for SAP Applications (Non-HANA): is used for all non-HANA SAP applications. This also comes in the basic two socket / two VM and the unlimited VM option using Virtual Datacenter subscriptions. Primary use case is for SAP business applications.
- RHEL for SAP Solutions: is an attractive, bundled subscription with several Red Hat technologies. This is the subscription required for SAP HANA use cases. This subscription includes Red Hat Insights, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat High Availability Add-On, and Red Hat Satellite Add-On. It also has an extended update support (EUS) of four years included vs the standard support term of two years.
- RHEL for Distributed Computing (Edge): These are RHEL skus , but priced for edge environments. Designed for purchase in large quantities to satisfy large scale, multi-site deployments. Comes with Red Hat Satellite. Available for Server, Gateway, and End-point device use cases. Minimum quantity requirements apply.
- RHEL for Workstation: Designed for advanced Linux users working on more powerful hardware, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation is optimized for high-performance graphics, animation, and scientific activities. It includes all the capabilities and applications that workstation users need, plus development tools for provisioning and administration.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Add-Ons
This section provides information on add-on packages that can be sold with the RHEL Operating System from Lenovo. Any “Add-On” package will adopt the support levels of the underlying server OS (i.e. Standard or Premium support, Lenovo Support or Red Hat Support).
- Extended Update Support (EUS). is an optional offering for Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscribers. With EUS, Red Hat provides backports of Critical and Important impact security updates and urgent-priority bug fixes for a predefined set of minor releases of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. EUS enables customers to remain with the same minor release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux for 24 months, allowing for stable production environments for mission-critical applications.
- High Availability. High Availability Add-On allows a service to fail over from one (1) node to another with no apparent interruption to cluster clients, evicting faulty nodes during transfer to prevent data corruption. This Add-On can be configured for most applications (both off-the-shelf and custom) and virtual guests and supports up to 16 nodes (RHEL 7.6 and RHEL 8.0) and up to 32 nodes (RHEL 7.7 and 8.1 and later). The High Availability Add-On features a cluster manager, lock management, fencing, command-line cluster configuration, and a Conga administration tool.
- Resilient Storage Add-On. Red Hat Resilient Storage lets users access the same storage device over a network—using either shared storage or a clustered file system—through a pool of data that's available to each server in a group. Each server in a cluster has direct access to a shared block device over a local storage area network (SAN).
- Red Hat Satellite Add-On. Red Hat Satellite combines the flexible and powerful infrastructure management capabilities of Red Hat Satellite with the simplicity of cloud management services for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and many other Red Hat products. It helps you more securely manage any environment supported by Red Hat.

Red Hat Cloud Platform
Is a cloud computing platform that virtualizes resources from industry-standard hardware, organizes those resources into clouds, and manages them so users can access what they need—when they need it.
- Red Hat OpenStack Platform: Red Hat OpenStack Platform maintains high availability and policy driven measures, including infrastructure failure recognition, automated host node evacuation, and downed node fencing. It also automatically restarts workloads on remaining available hosts. This subscription is a bundle of RHEL, Red Hat Virtualization and OpenStack. The OpenStack Platform Controller Node “no guest” simply deletes the RHEL OS from the bundle for customers that want to add Red Hat OpenStack onto another vendor OS or already have RHEL OS installed on the server.

- Red Hat OpenShift Kubernetes Engine: Available for bare metal, virtualized and edge deployment, OpenShift Kubernetes Engine is a product offering that lets you use an enterprise class Kubernetes platform as a production platform for launching containers. This is an entry level product and does not include some of the developer tools or features.
- Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation: As a part of Red Hat’s focus on overall data resiliency, Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation let organizations extend their current enterprise backup and recovery solutions to production Kubernetes applications.

Red Hat Application Services
Red Hat uses the term “Application Services” to refer to capabilities that provide customers with tools to design and develop cloud-native architectures and applications for hybrid cloud execution. - Red Hat Directory Server: is an LDAP-compliant server that centralizes user identity and application information. It provides an operating system-independent, network-based registry for storing application settings, user profiles, group data, policies, and access control information.
- Red Hat Runtimes: is a set of products, tools, and components for developing and maintaining cloud-native applications.
- Red Hat JBoss: is an open-source platform for highly transactional, web-scale Java applications. - Q: What types of Red Hat subscriptions does Lenovo offer?
A: Lenovo offers OEM subscriptions and Resell subscriptions for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, HPC, SAP, OpenShift, OpenStack, and Ansible. “OEM” subscriptions come with industry leading 24x7 support from Lenovo offering a single point to call for any hardware or software issues. Please refer to the product list found in this document.
- Q: How is Red Hat Enterprise Linux sold?
A: Red Hat subscriptions are sold in 1, 3 and 5-year options. These are not “licenses” but are subscriptions that provide access to all software downloads, patches, upgrades, etc. and the ability to contact Lenovo or Red Hat for support. Support will be either 10x5 or 24x7 terms. Subscriptions are delivered from Lenovo to the customer.
- Q: How are the Red Hat subscriptions delivered?
A: Red Hat subscription keys are inventoried by Lenovo and delivered via the Lenovo Key Management System (LKMS). Customers are sent an Authorization Code used to register the purchase on the LKMS. The actual Red Hat activation keys are then emailed to the customer to register at the customer’s Red Hat Network user account.
- Q: Can I reassign a Red Hat subscription in the case of new hardware or a disaster recovery scenario?
A: Yes, Red Hat subscriptions can be reassigned to a new server by changing the server on the customer’s Red Hat Network account.
