Abstract
Lenovo offers a full suite of backup and disaster recovery solutions from industry leader, Veeam Software. Together with Lenovo’s portfolio of top-quality servers and storage products, customers can feel secure in their data recovery solution in the unfortunate case that a data integrity event occurs such as a ransomware attack. It is critical for both small and large companies to have reliable and secure data backup solutions.
The Veeam portfolio available from Lenovo includes:

Veeam Product Type and versions
This section describes the Veeam subscriptions and perpetual licenses available from Lenovo. Products are sold with either Public Sector (Education, Government) or Commercial options.
Product Type:
- Perpetual – “Perpetual License” means a License Type that grants Customers the right to use, in perpetuity, any version of the Software delivered prior to the Support and Maintenance expiration date reflected in the license file provided, however, that License Keys are updated from time to time.
- Subscription – “Subscription License” means a License Type that grants Customers the right to use the latest version of the Software for a specified length of time or term, depending on SKU purchased. Production Support and Maintenance is included for the entire term of the Subscription License, provided the End User is compliant with this Licensing Policy and the EULA.
Veeam Re-Branded software:
Align with V12 release, Veeam rebranded portfolio comes with enhanced features and flexible options. Veeam Universal License (VUL) is a portable license that allows the customer the flexibility to protect cloud, virtual and physical workloads interchangeably whether it be on-premises or in hybrid- or multi-cloud deployments, including full-feature capabilities for all workload types. (Including VMware, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Windows between others).
VUL is required for many features, so Veeam strongly recommend to migrate current licenses to VUL for full capability. A VUL is always required for NAS, all physical agents, Nutanix AHV virtual machines (VMs), cloud-native workloads and more.

- Veeam Data platform Essentials (formerly Veeam Backup Essential) delivers powerful, easy-to-use and affordable backup, recovery, monitoring and reporting for up to 50 virtual, physical and cloud workloads — all from a single platform. With the simple and portable licensing model — Veeam Universal License (VUL).
- Veeam Data Platform Foundation (formerly Veeam Backup & Replication) designed for both, on-premises and in the cloud. As the foundational component of Veeam Data Platform Veeam Backup & Replication delivers secure, powerful, and reliable data protection.
- Veeam Data Platform Advanced (formerly Veeam Availability Suite) Besides all Veeam Data Platform Foundation, includes Monitoring & Analytics. It provides back up and reliable recovery and proactive monitoring and analytics and disaster recovery.
- Veeam Data Platform Premium Besides all Veeam Data Platform Advanced, includes Recovery Orchestration. Provides back up and reliable recovery, proactive monitoring and analytics and disaster recovery.
Customers can quote Veeam subscriptions or licenses from Lenovo through the Data Center Solution Configurator (DCSC) using either guided configurations (CTO) or by selecting standalone part numbers (BTO).

When ordered via BTO please note any restrictions such as the VBO for Office 365 is listed by unit but must be purchased in groups of 10 units.

Veeam Management Products
This section provides information on Veeam licenses and subscriptions for management tools such as Veeam ONE and the Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator (DRO), formerly known as Veeam Availability Orchestrator.
For IT professionals with performance is a primary concern, Veeam ONE provide capabilities to build high performance datacenter backup environments.
- Veeam ONE: This is management tool that enables integration into Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere. This is offered as a perpetual license in 1, 3 and 5-year bundles that include Production Level support.
Veeam and ThinkSystem DE & DM Storage
Veeam is fully integrated to the Lenovo DM ONTAP management system. This provides both powerful and affordable backup storage options. Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series storage snapshot copies provide a number of advantages: You can use them for “point-in-time” recovery and create a large number of restore points frequently, without impacting production workloads—even during working hours. You can also use these snapshot copies to protect data in certain disaster scenarios. You can replicate them to a secondary, often remote storage system for disaster recovery by using Lenovo DM Series SnapMirror® replication technology, or back up and archive them by using Lenovo SnapVault® software. In short, Lenovo storage snapshot technology combines performance, scalability, and efficient storage utilization to deliver fantastic RPOs.
Lenovo and Veeam have partnered to integrate support for Lenovo storage snapshot technology into the Veeam Availability Suite. This integration provides customers with a deeper level of protection and availability across Lenovo ThinkSystem DM Series, and Lenovo ThinkSystem DE Series storage platforms. Integration of Veeam Backup & Recovery with Lenovo storage snapshot technology allows you to achieve:
- Faster backups. Back up VMware virtual machines (VMs) directly from Lenovo storage snapshot copies.
- Quick recovery. Recover entire VMs or individual items from Lenovo storage snapshot, and SnapMirror software.
- Improved protection. Create instant secondary backups from Lenovo storage snapshot copies.
Lenovo DE-Series storage provides simple and reliable SAN storage that integrates seamlessly with most application environments. Its modular design helps decrease operating expenses while offering many options for connectivity, capacity, and performance that easily scale to meet the demands of a growing backup environment.
Lenovo DE-Series and Veeam Backup & Replication combine to offer a data protection and availability solution through tested reference architectures. This solution is optimized for virtual environments, providing disk-to-disk backup and recovery on high-capacity, flexible, performance-oriented Lenovo DE-Series storage arrays. This solution provides you with superior data management for virtual environments and high availability while also making your data highly available.
Lenovo DE-Series arrays provide a high-performing backup repository to house Veeam-created backups. With this capability, the recovery technologies that are enabled through Veeam can satisfy stringent RTOs. Recovery technologies such as instant VM recovery, SureBackup, and on-demand sandbox can leverage backup repositories that are capable of high I/O to achieve their full potential.
These technologies enable you to restore from your backups faster and also enable capabilities such as automated recovery verification. The technologies can also leverage backup data as an ad hoc testing environment. This capability changes the way that users have used backups in the past because more benefits are associated with having backups. No longer do backups sit idle, waiting for an emergency restore; you can apply your backups for many creative uses.

Veeam and ThinkAgile Hyperconverged
This section provides information on Veeam integration with Lenovo ThinkAgile solutions.
ThinkAgile HX
This solution delivers a complete hyperconverged infrastructure with ThinkAgile HX and ThinkSystem DE series storage that integrates Veeam enterprise-class Backup & Recovery software to deliver instant data and VM recovery for Nutanix business critical applications while streamlining the deployment, management, and scaling of datacenter resources.
Veeam and Lenovo DE Series hybrid flash gives organizations a high-speed storage repository that scales-up to meet the backup and recovery needs of growing application environments and native Veeam data deduplication and compression to keep backup costs in check. Veeam Backup & Replication capabilities also provide a cost-effective way to ensure DR by providing the flexibility to use DE Series as a DR replication target for third party storage systems.

ThinkAgile VX
The data center is changing. Veeam Subscription and License FAQ
Additional information about Lenovo resale of Veeam products.
Q: Does Lenovo provide support for Veeam software?
A: No. All support is provided by Veeam. Customers are instructed to call Veeam customer support directly with any issues installing or operating Veeam software.
Q: How do the Licenses or Subscriptions get delivered?
A: Lenovo uses the Lenovo Key Management System (LKMS) as the vehicle to transact most software delivery, including Veeam. Upon the Sales Order ship date, authorization codes are sent to the purchaser. These codes are then registered on LKMS. At that time the customer information will be electronically delivered to Veeam for processing and delivery of License keys.
Q: How will my support get renewed after initial maintenance agreements expire?
A: Lenovo can renew the Subscriptions when they expire. For Perpetual License maintenance contracts, those will be renewed directly by Veeam.
Q: Does Lenovo preinstall Veeam software at the factory?
A: No. Veeam software is delivered to customers by Veeam directly after Sales Order ship date.
