Abstract

Lenovo offers high-performance solutions based on software from Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu.

Lenovo and Canonical provide an enterprise-class Linux platform combining Lenovo ThinkSystem and ThinkEdge servers with Ubuntu Server Long Term Support (LTS) and Ubuntu Pro subscriptions. These offerings are designed to support trusted, reliable, and scalable infrastructure deployments across data center, edge, and cloud-native environments.

Ubuntu Pro is Canonical’s comprehensive subscription for up to 15 years of open source security, compliance, and long-term maintenance. It provides security coverage across both Main and Universe repositories, Livepatch for kernel CVEs without reboot, and includes compliance frameworks such as FIPS, CIS, and DISA-STIG. Ubuntu Pro helps enterprises to secure and operate their infrastructure reliably.

This product guide offers Lenovo customers, partners, sales and technical professionals a concise overview of available Ubuntu offerings, including key features and components, benefits, positioning within the Lenovo data center portfolio, and ordering information via Lenovo. It summarizes the most relevant SKUs and descriptions for easy quoting, and provides a high-level deployment and support for Ubuntu in Lenovo server environments.

Introduction

Organizations are transforming their IT environments to support modern workloads, while maintaining high levels of security, availability, and operational efficiency. These requirements demand an enterprise-grade Linux platform that is open, scalable, and supported across the full infrastructure lifecycle. Lenovo and Canonical deliver such a platform.

By combining Lenovo ThinkSystem and ThinkEdge servers with Ubuntu Server LTS and Ubuntu Pro subscriptions, the solutions deliver enterprise-grade performance and reliability. Ubuntu provides a consistent operating environment across physical, virtual, cloud, and edge deployments. It is widely adopted for Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and modern application platforms.

For customers seeking simplified private cloud and edge deployments, Canonical MicroCloud offers lightweight, clustered infrastructure that’s simple to get up and running, supported by the reliable foundation of Ubuntu. MicroCloud integrates compute, storage, and networking into a compact, easily managed solution that is well suited for remote offices, edge locations, and smaller data center environments running on Lenovo servers.

By purchasing Canonical’s solutions through Lenovo, customers benefit from validated hardware compatibility, simplified procurement, and enterprise support. These joint Lenovo and Canonical offerings provide a security-maintained, flexible, and future-ready Linux foundation, supporting both traditional enterprise workloads and modern distributed infrastructure use cases.

Canonical MicroCloud overview

Canonical MicroCloud is a lightweight, open source cloud platform, designed to simplify the deployment and operation of clustered environments for edge, remote office, and everything from small to large data centers. It is built on the same Ubuntu Server LTS foundation and is supported through Ubuntu Pro, ensuring consistency with enterprise Ubuntu deployments.

MicroCloud combines compute, storage, and networking into a single, cohesive platform that can be deployed rapidly with minimal configuration. It uses native Ubuntu components to provide high availability and clustering capabilities, helping organizations to create resilient infrastructure, without the complexity typically associated with traditional private cloud solutions.

When deployed on Lenovo ThinkSystem and ThinkEdge servers, MicroCloud provides a compact and efficient platform well suited to distributed environments. Typical use cases include edge computing, remote offices and branch offices (ROBO), development and test environments, and localized application platforms that require simplicity and reliability.

MicroCloud complements existing data center and cloud strategies by extending the Ubuntu operating environment to smaller-scale deployments. Supported by Canonical and available through Lenovo, MicroCloud helps customers to deploy clustered infrastructure with predictable lifecycle management, enterprise security, and validated Lenovo hardware compatibility. How to order (quick steps)

  1. Identify deployment type (Physical or Virtual) and desired support level (Self-support, Weekday, or 24/7).
  2. Select term (1, 2, 3, or 5 years) and instance type (Physical or Virtual).
  3. Use the Canonical Ubuntu table to pick the correct LFO (Lenovo PN) and confirm the matching Vendor SKU.
  4. If Ubuntu is part of a broader Lenovo Open Cloud Automation (LOCA) engagement, cross-reference the LOCA table for compatible items.
  5. Quote via Lenovo DCSC and submit PO per standard process.
